这门课程是古病理学的介绍性课程。古病理学是生物人类学的一个分支，使用各种信息研究古代的疾病。课程内容包括疾病的概念和诊断、传染性疾病的起源及其对人类的影响、人类饮食与生理性疾病、可遗传性疾病的起源和进化、退行性病变、创伤，课程的最后会讨论全球的健康趋势，定居和聚集、农业的发展和强化、城市化、殖民扩张和工业化对一些疾病群的影响等。

This course is a general introduction to the field of paleopathology. Paleopathology is a subfield of biological anthropology that encompasses the study of disease in antiquity using a variety of sources of information. The course will cover many topics, including the concept of disease and the basic diagnostic criteria for different categories of disease, infectious diseases and their origins and impact on human cultures, human dietary adaptations and the physiological disorders, heritable diseases and the role of environmental factors in their origin and evolution, degenerative diseases, and traumas. In a comprehensive review at the end of the semester, we will discuss global trends in community health and how the distribution of several disease groups was affected by increasing sedentism and settlement nucleation, the development of agriculture, agricultural intensification, urbanization, colonial expansion, and industrialization.
