英文课程简介
This interdisciplinary course encompasses the fields of rock mechanics, structural geology, earthquake seismology and petroleum engineering to address a wide range of geomechanical problems that arise during the exploitation of oil and gas, and geothermal reservoirs.
The course considers key practical issues at two levels, for undergraduates and graduates, respectively. In the introductory section, it will cover topics to interest the undergrads in geomechanics, e.g., anthropogenic seismicity, nuclear waste and CO2 geologic disposal, geothermal and hydrocarbon extraction, and scientific drilling. In the advanced section, it will delve into the fundamentals and the most urgent scientific questions of the aforementioned topics, e.g., in situ stress characterization, permeability, poroelasticity, fault mechanics, combining extensive theoretical, field and laboratory components.
